“It’s Done, Bro!” The Wedding That Gave the Internet a Thousand Opinions

Omar Abdullah and Nidhi Razdan married quietly. The internet, naturally, declined to keep quiet. Congratulations, parliamentary wit, unkind jokes and questions about politics crowded into the conversation.

A chief minister announced his marriage in a handful of words. A journalist answered with the breezy confidence of someone who had no intention of issuing a formal communiqué. On 31 October, Omar Abdullah and Nidhi Razdan told the public that they had married the day before. Their photographs were affectionate and their announcements unusually economical. That was all the encouragement the internet required.

By evening, the conversation had become a small portrait of Indian social media itself. Political colleagues offered congratulations, some with considerable wit. Instagram commenters celebrated the couple, joked about age, ventured into needless personal remarks and introduced political identity into what had begun as a family occasion. The responses below preserve the distinction between statements published by identifiable public figures and comments visible through a third-party mirror of a public Instagram post. They are not presented as a statistically representative survey.

The couple and the public figures

01 · Omar Abdullah · @OmarAbdullah
X · Original announcement

“A new journey began yesterday 💍”

02 · Nidhi Razdan · @Nidhi
X · Original announcement

“It’s done bro 💍”

03 · Shashi Tharoor · @ShashiTharoor
X · Reported public reaction

“Wonderful news of this new swearing-in!”

04 · Priyanka Chaturvedi · @priyankac19
X · Reported public reaction

“Congratulations Nidhi and Omar! 💞💞”

05 · Kangana Ranaut · @KanganaTeam
X · Actor and MP

“Congratulations ♥️♥️”

Tharoor's joke about a fresh swearing-in was particularly apt for a sitting chief minister. Chaturvedi's message was affectionate, while Ranaut, from a different political party, kept her greeting admirably simple. For a moment, the familiar divisions of politics yielded to the older courtesy of congratulating newlyweds.

Instagram's less ceremonious reception

The following public comments were visible on a third-party mirror of a wedding post by celebrity photographer Viral Bhayani. They are reproduced selectively, with original handles, and should be read as a snapshot of that comment section, not as independently authenticated Instagram account records. Some remarks are coarse, ageist or unkind. Their inclusion records the tone of the discussion; it does not endorse it.

The contrast is instructive. One reader wished the couple happiness. Another invoked retirement. Others made jokes about age and vitality, while one introduced Kashmiri Pandit identity into the conversation. Social media has an extraordinary capacity to transform a wedding photograph into an argument about anything its audience happens to bring to the screen.

Even the wedding entered a political argument

The timing of the announcement also attracted political commentary. The Kashmir Observer reported that Abdullah's party was facing internal discontent over a cabinet reshuffle, while PGurus framed the wedding photographs against a revolt by unhappy legislators. These were published media interpretations, not authenticated reader comments, and there is no established evidence that the wedding announcement was intended to distract from a political dispute.

The marriage was reported to have taken place on 30 October under the Special Marriage Act, with family members present. Abdullah's previous marriage had been dissolved by the Supreme Court in July 2026 following a settlement. Neither circumstance should become an invitation to speculate about private relationships or the motives of those involved.

Behind the jokes, two people

The public has every right to discuss a chief minister's record, and every liberty to laugh at a clever turn of phrase. Yet a marriage remains a private undertaking even when its participants are famous. The most memorable words of the entire occasion were perhaps the simplest. One spoke of a new journey. The other declared that it was done. Between those two sentences lay something the internet, for all its energy, could neither explain nor own.
